Will My Engine Leak With Synthetic Motor Oil

by admin on April 14, 2010

Have you ever heard that using synthetic oil will cause your older engine to leak?

The answer is yes it will… If your engine is old and not well maintained.

See an old engine that is prone to overheating and has had too few motor oil changes could very well have accumulated large sludge and varnish deposits.

If a valve cover gasket or a pan gasket  are isolated from the engine oil because it is covered by a “false seal” of varnish or sludge then a quality synthetic oil could expose a dry seal by cleaning away the varnish and sludge.  A dry seal could leak when exposed.

So how often have you changed your oil.  Is your engine in good operating condition and good repair?  Do you have more than 200,000 miles on the engine?

If you take average care of your vehicle then you are likely a good candidate to swap to synthetic oil.

Good seal swell additives in a quality synthetic oil will keep your engine leak free!
